My Journey to Lose 60lbs – 8Lbs in Two Weeks!
I’m going from 220lbs to 160lbs and I wanted to share my journey. The important part of this adventure is doing it while maintaining good health and building muscle instead of just dropping fat!
Hello, Nick Kern here. I’m the Founder and Editor in Chief of the Cooking/Food How-To Blog – EatingInBed.com. I’ve been writing about food, health, music, movies, video games, and anything generally entertaining since 2009, and have had articles published on several sites across the vast internet landscape. My main passions are health and food though, and today I’m here to talk about my current weight loss efforts. I want to go from 220lbs to 160lbs, and I want to do it healthily!
Weight loss is a highly talked about topic all over modern media. It’s a topic that’s over saturated with ridiculous ideas like eating baby food for months or completely cutting out food groups, but it doesn’t have to be. In the past two weeks I’ve lost 8 pounds in a very healthy manner that has given me more energy and has put me in a better mood.
The keys to weight loss are portion control, moderate exercise, and the ability to say, “No”. I came to the conclusion that I need to lose around 60 pounds to be at the proper weight for my height and build. When I decided to act on this, I thought it would be harder than it is, but I just alternate 3 forms of exercise with a strict diet. Knowing that you have to exercise everyday is a lot easier to manage than trying to plan 3 days a week to get to the gym, when you can work 6 days a week from your home.

BREAKFAST
During my work week I only eat Starbucks for breakfast because I know the caloric intake of my meal, and the health values. I get the Turkey Bacon & Egg White Sandwich on a Wheat English Muffin with a venti hot green tea. This same meal can be made at home every morning with the same ingredients you just have to poach an egg. The egg whites contain protein with low saturated fats, as does the turkey bacon and the whole wheat muffin has soluble fiber that keeps you feeling full. The green tea also makes you feel full longer and speeds up your metabolism.
LUNCH
At lunch I always stick to a small portion of a lean protein like chicken, fish, or turkey. Occasionally it’s fine to intersperse a piece of red meat every once and a while. It’s best to have a larger portion of protein to veg to help with muscle regeneration. It’s also important to add pepper or hot sauce to keep your metabolism at a fast pace. This will also help give you an early afternoon energy burst, but if you’re still feeling groggy eat a handful of almonds.
DINNER
For dinner I generally eat whatever I want just in smaller portions than I normally would. I also try to avoid large carb dishes like pasta or rice bowls. Instead I’ll eat a baked potato, yam, or a small portion of a healthy carb like quinoa, brown rice, or whole wheat pasta.

DRINKS
I’ve really only drank water and green tea the whole time. Every now and then I’ve had a glass of juice, but really just water and tea with breakfast. Tea at breakfast is great for boosting your metabolism and making you feel full until lunch.
So by following this simple diet I’ve been able to lose 8 pounds in two weeks. I’ll continue to keep you informed on my progress, I’ll be doing these updates every two weeks until I hit my target goal of 160lbs, and I’ll finish with a before and after photo! Use this as inspiration to start your workout from it’s stalled winter position and shed those pounds!
